Last Sunday the run wife, Cory Lee and I completed The Sporting Life 10k for Camp Ochigeas. We were honoured to participate as media ambassadors.
Camp Ooch is a camp for kids with cancer. We raised funds to help send kids battling cancer to camp for free. A chance for them to escape the harsh realities of their lives, a chance for them to …just be kids.
This was my first 10K but certainly will not be my last. Yes we stopped to use the washroom (a girl gots ta pee son) but there was never a point where I desperately needed to stop. At 9k as we approached Front and Spadina I felt a wave of emotion wash over me. I suddenly became aware of all the people on the sidelines with signs, which reminded me why I was running. I began to think about the kids fighting for their lives, the kids doing yet another round of chemo or the parents having to see their children in debilitating pain and feeling completely helpless. I thought about them. But the tears started to flow as I remembered it was mother’s day and I started to think about my mom who fought breast cancer. Who even at her lowest points, remained strong.Who despite the unknown, always remained positive….I thought about her. What was a 10k? How dare I even get tired or notice an annoying knee pain…or even fathom stopping when she never quit against a behemoth of an opponent.
Needless to say the race was extremely rewarding. I’m so glad I did it.

Nice images and the run looked good. I think when people do these runs for charity or help some cause that is commendable. Great images. Looks like a lot of fun.
