My Dog Remy’s 6th Barkday Pawty!

October 17, 2016

I’m from the Caribbean, we’ve always had dogs (pour some out fo’ Splash, Onyx, Jazz, Kujo, Shandy & Nick.) However they were all outside dogs. They ate chicken back, tripe, rice and other people food complete with nuff bones. I have no idea where in my yard my dogs went to the bathroom and we for sure never picked up any poo! The dogs also had no leashes coz we didn’t walk them, they just roamed around the yard and the neighbourhood.

Fast forward 10 years and I’m currently snuggling ON MY COUCH with my designer dog Remy. He’s a minigoldendoodle. He has two beds and his own chair in the living room. We would never dare give him people food or God forbid a chicken bone! We walk him 3 or 4 times a day and I’m now quite comfortable with feeling warm poo in poo bag against my palm. My west indian grandparents are probably rolling over in their graves at the thought of Remy prancing around in a winter jacket. Oh Lord!

But you know what Remy is truly part of our family now.  He is our little silent devoted companion (although I know one of these days he will speak.) He reminds us every day to be present and teaches us how to love unconditionally. As they say a dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself. My husband and I couldn’t picture our lives without him.

So part of this journey I’m on is about making more time for family and friends. We decided to throw Remy a barkday pawty complete with a party table and of course doggie bags! We invited some of our closest friends who also have four-legged loved ones. We knew right away the best place to have it was at Purina PawsWay. It’s a one of a kind pet center complete with an animal hall of fame and a pet friendly cafe. They also have lots of events and have rental spaces for your events. We weren’t sure how a dog party would work but it was super fun, the staff at PawsWay were so helpful, and it was great to catch up with some peeps we haven’t seen in a while. Check out the pics from Remy’s pawty last weekend! Would you ever have a birthday party for your dog?! Let me know in the comments below.

So ridiculously true and hilarious about West Indians and their viewpoint/treatment of dogs. I laughed reading this. 🙂
