This summer was one of mental aerobics…twists, turns, somersaults. I wrestled with the thought of leaving CP24 news. I was putting on a brave face but deep down was battling with fear and insecurity.
That’s why I was so relieved to have a break from the fighting. It came in the form of a trip to Viamede resort; a sprawling 165 acre resort in the Kawarthas. It’s a surprisingly short 2 hour drive from the city…and the best part is they allow dogs free of charge so Remy tagged a long.
From the moment we arrived, I felt all my reservations, and the stress of my impending decision melting away.
We stayed in one of their cottages (which was more modern than we were expecting). Victor, Remy and I spent the days lounging on the dock dreaming of owning a cottage on Stoney Lake or going for a lazy paddle in the canoe. We loved the fact that we could just grab a canoe or Kayak and just go.
What was even more rewarding was the look on Remy’s face as he roamed the area around our cottage and in the off leash park nearby. For a city dog who is mostly cooped up in our small pad… Viamede was heaven. They also made a donation in Remy’s honour to the” Maggie Fund” in support of Golden Rescue.
Our cottage came with a barbecue so we made our own lunch which was super convenient. But for dinner we opted for Mount Julian and The Boathouse. We were absolutely blown away by the service and quality of food at Mount Julian restaurant. This place was built in 1874 and exudes charm. We learned so much about the food we were eating which was foraged and farmed at Viamede. I swear I’m still full from the 9 course…yes my friend, 9 course meal we had at Mount Julian. They also were very understanding of our dietary restrictions.
These pictures bring me right back to our late summer getaway at Viamede. We’re seriously thinking of going up again because they’re open all year round. If you’re perhaps planning a trip of your own, when you call to book give them my name and you’ll get 10% off! Enjoy the pics and I would love to hear about your getaways this summer.

Yayyy! Thanks for this Nneka. I think we’re gonna go with the kiddies before it gets too cold.
Viamede Resort sounds like a fantastic place to get away from it all. Loved that you could take Remy. Think this might be my next destination for some R&R, with Charlie by our side.
