Buffer Festival is an annual Youtube film festival in Toronto. I can recall interviewing Founder/creator Corey Vidal in the early days of Buffer Festival and I’m so impressed at how much its grown in such a short time. My transition from traditional media to digital hasn’t been easy, but it’s events like Buffer Festival that help open my mind to the possibilities of this new world. Last year when I went to this event I vowed I’d be involved in some capacity next time. This year I proudly moderated a panel discussion at the festival’s industry day.
Industry Day is a one day event that brings together Creators, Brands, Broadcasters and Technology to discuss the challenges and and opportunities for elevated online video content. It was hosted by my friend tech expert Amber Mac. I had many aha moments while taking in the various information sessions and keynotes. There were sessions on topics like analytics, storytelling, best practices when working with influencers etc.
The panel I moderated was about producing and buying content for a ready made audience. We’re seeing lots of production companies, digital platforms, broadcasters etc, working with creators to develop shows outside of Youtube. I’ve said many times, particularly on my Facebook live chat, that I wanna be a screen queen, meaning I see myself having my content on various screens. There are many creators who have similar aspirations. So we got some great insights from panelists: George Woolley Head of originals at Portal A, Bryan Terry, VP of Development and Original Programming at TruTV and Jonathon Barbato, Marketing & Partnership at TubiTV. It was great getting to know these leaders in the industry!
Buffer Festival continues this weekend with screenings of Youtube premieres from some of your favourite creators. The festival wraps up with an awards gala. Look out for more pictures from the festival on my twitter, instagram and facebook. You can learn more about what’s o the agenda at Buffer Festival HERE.
