As a former weather broadcaster I know a lot about Canadian geography. I randomly know where Upsala and Melita are! I also got quite familiar with popular attractions or activities in various Canadian cities. Not because I’d been there…but because I’m a good study. I’m so tired of saying “I really should see more of Canada!” Trying to turn my words into action these days.
Ottawa was a city I’d only been to for one afternoon. I know a whole lot and nothing about Ottawa. So when I was presented with an opportunity to visit…I jumped at it. Actually I jumped right into Winterlude; a festival that celebrates the glory of…yes winter. Highlights this year include the Ice Dragon Boat festival! This Caribbean girl is not a fan of winter lol. But I am a fan of living and I really admire Ottawans’ ability to make the best out of a frosty situation and enjoy life!
One of those attractions I often referenced as a weather broadcaster is the one and only Rideau Canal. I haven’t skated in about 6 years. The last time was on-air at Harbourfront Centre in Toronto. I remember being half decent. So when I decided to make a trip to the canal I was planning to do a few casual leg lifts and maybe even a spin. Didn’t quite go that way. You’ll see what I mean in the video below! Nonetheless even if it was brief, it was kinda cool being one of the “winter enthusiasts” I used to interview as a reporter. Remember there’s no such thing as bad weather…just bad clothing 🙂 Winterlude runs until February 20th, 2017. There are so many more activities, most of which are free! You can find more info about Winterlude here: https://www.ottawatourism.ca/events/winterlude/
Check out some of my favourite pictures from my short trip to Ottawa. Including more sights from Winterlude and my visit to the Canadian Museum of History for a Black History Month reception!
