I first learned of Stachen Frederick and her BrAIDathon when we were speakers at a Caribbean Women’s Power Lunch event.

The BrAIDathon is an event where people get their hair done by professional hair dressers. They also have vendor markets, workshops and much more

Proceeds go to supporting the BrAIDS for AIDS Foundation and its programs across the GTA including a new entrepreneurship-focused hair dresser program for African, Caribbean and Black young women; our program with young men in the prison system; and our program focusing on combating violence against women.

I had the opportunity this year to do a talk/tutorial for attendees. I did a live segment on a simple skincare routine to help you make power moves this summer. I had a blast interacting with folks, taking questions and doing trivia for giveaways. I love me son trivia 🙂 Thanks again for having me Stachen! Check out some pictures below and my simple summer skincare routine.

Gentle Cleanse

Start with a gentle foaming cleanser like Thursday Plantation’s Tea Tree Foaming Face Wash. If you have specific skin needs like acne, find one with salicylic acid or other acne fighting ingredients.

Hydrate

Follow up with a lightweight moisturizer to lock in moisture and keep skin supple. Neutrogena’s pink grapefruit moisturizer or Inkey LIst’s tumeric cream moisturizer are some good options.

Protect

Get you a good suncreeen, minimum SPF 30, Health Canada says damaging sun rays can penetrate skin regardless of your skin colour! Vichy, Cera Ve, Coola all have great sunscreens. I’m loving Dermalogica’s Prisma Protect which moisturizes, illuminates and provides SPF and environmental protection all in one..

Bonus:

The three steps above are great, but of you want to add a few bonus products. Reach for a simple toner to reset and rebalance your face like Ole Henriksen’s dark spot toner. As well as a serum that can help with a multitude of things from uneven skin tone, to brightness and wrinkles. One of my faves is Skinceuticals Hyaluronic acid.
