What To Wear During Toronto Carnival Season

July 17, 2017
Toronto Carnival

Toronto Caribbean Carnival aka Caribana is right around the corner. Soca parties and various events are already in full swing.  Having grown up with a dad who designs carnival costumes, I’m a carnival baby in every sense of the word. It’s a big part of who I am. This the first year in a long time that I have the freedom to actually enjoy a full Toronto carnival. But with that being said…what the hell am I gonna wear?!! I put together some options. Let me know what you think.

Hoping that you’ll find some insporation in these looks. Noticeably missing is an outfit for the parade day itself. That’s because I’ll be in a costume. I’m playing once again this year with Saldenah in Dr. Jay and his sister Myana’s section “Maplelicious.” You can expect to see some pictures and video of the costume and my experience. So stay tuned for that.

Boat Cruise:

I love a boat cruise! The serenity of the water and lake views juxtaposed with the pulsating island vibes, gets me every time. It’s always best to go with a good group of friends.

Striped Romper: Mendocino

Shoes: The Shoe Company

Day Party:

Now that I work for myself, I’m looking forward to having the opportunity to take in some day parties. Here’s something I might wear.

Dress: H&M

Sandals: Old Navy

Soca Fete:

It’s my dream to be in a Machel Montano video. I wanna be one of those people screaming his lyrics at the side of the stage. But then again I don’t want any water thrown on me…so maybe not too too close to the stage lol! Anyway, soca fetes are definitely on the agenda. Don’t let the heels fool you, I’ll still be able to buss a wine!

Top: Zara

Shoes: A boutique in St.Vincent who’s name I’ve forgotten

Carnival cool-down:

After the big parade, the day after is always an opportunity to have a bit of a cool down. It’s a more laid back day to just chill with family and friends. A break from the hyped up atmosphere that would’ve been the norm in the days prior. I would wear something like this.

Dress: Winners

Sandals: Forever 21

I want to take you with me to the various Caribana events I’ll be going to. I’ll be doing daily instalives for one week called ” Nneka’s Insta-Lime.” Be sure to follow me on instagram @nnekaelliott for more details. I’m also planning something cool for local and visiting Caribbean bloggers, so you’ll get to see that as well.
