When was the last time you danced up a storm on a Tuesday night!!? I did it last night at the B.L.A.C.K ball. What a party! B.L.A.C.K stands for Building a Legacy in Acting, Cinema and Knowledge, it’s an initiative and annual tiff event hosted by actors (and brothers) Shamier Anderson and Stephan James.
What a couple of years these two have had! At only 24 & 26 years old, James and Anderson have starred in various movies and television shows together from; FOX’s limited series Shots Fired, Focus Features Race and Director X’s Across The Line. The brothers established B.L.A.C.K in their home town of Toronto, to big up other young filmmakers and actors during the festival, to create a legacy for a lifetime.
Look out for Shamier opposite Johnny Depp & Forest Whitaker in the book adaptation Labyrinth set to be released in 2018. Meantime Stephan will star in Oscar winning director Barry Jenkins newest film If Beale Street Could Talk set to release 2018/2019.
Toronto couldn’t be more proud of them. Last night the brothers hosted the B.L.A.C.K ball at Wildflower (inside Thompson Hotel.) It was so great to see so many successful creatives and film industry professionals in the black community all in one room. It was quite powerful! People like Director X, Clement Virgo, Matthew Romeo and Sarunas Jackson to name a very few. Add to that I got to dance and laugh the night away with Karlyn Percil, Tracy Moore and new friend Unique. Needless to say…it was a good night. (Shout out to J.Diggs and Miss Nix who kept the big tunes going!) Here are some pics and video from last night.
